INTRODUCTION

Dear Readers,

We are presenting a new issue of our monograph entitled “Salt Review”, prepared in cooperation with the AGH University of Science and Technology Press in Krakow. Owing to a large number of submitted papers and reports on the salt industry and business, this year’s edition is composed of two volumes of the “Geology, Geophysics & Environment” Quarterly, numbered 1 and 2.

We would like to thank our authors of papers and business reports and studies for the abundant materials submitted for publication. Considering the difficulties of many editors with obtaining specialist contributions, our scholarly activities indicated by the increased number of publications are absolutely outstanding on a national scale. Undoubtedly, that is a result of the consolidation of the Polish salt industry animated by the Polish Salt Mining Association.

A considerable role in our circles is played by constructive co-operation of the scholarly and research institutions with the Polish industrial companies. The success of our “Salt Review” and its existence on the research market for several years have been possible owing to financial support offered by salt mines and associated corporations.

At this point, we would like to thank especially the following: IKS Solino SA, Grupa Orlen SA, KGHM Polska Miedź SA, Kopalnia Soli Wieliczka SA, OBR G.S. Chem. Chemkop SA, PRWiG Warszawa Sp. z o.o., Hydronafta Piła Sp. z o.o., Sandvik Mining and Construction Sp. z o.o., Investgas SA, and CFT Polska Sp. z o.o. for kind sponsoring of the XVI International Quo Vadis Sal Symposium which took place in Toruń on 13–14 October 2011, whose budget also covered the publication of this year’s “Salt Review”.

Our special gratitude is directed to the Management and Workers of IKS Solino SA, the hosts of the last year’s Symposium, for excellent and substantive co-operation and perfect preparation of our conference.

Jacek Wachowiak, D.Sc.
